Mug Supper Cloth BOM, Part 1 available now.
Hooray, our first Block of the Month is here. Barbara has designed a set of 8 mugs for you to stitch over the next few months. The finishing instructions, which are included with part 4 will mean you have this beautiful quilt ready for an afternoon tea with some friends sometime during winter or early spring. Winter seems to stretch a bit longer here in Canberra so I think I’ll be having an indoor afternoon tea.
I remember my Nanna being very careful with her ‘good’ things and they rarely got used. I also remember a discussion at a Mum’s group that getting the ‘good stuff’ out is a great way to show our friends that we value them enough to use our best tea service. Sometimes in a house full of males it’s nice to do something girly.
Below is the view from Barbara’s verandah, what a great view for a quiet afternoon tea.
So I encourage you to get stitching, perhaps you could colour co-ordinate your supper cloth with your special tea service. We’ve made ours using redwork and red and cream fabric but the colours are completely up to you. The next part will be released on the 25th Feb 2014, so for those of you who are fast stitchers it’s not too long to wait. After that the 3rd and 4th parts will be released on the 10th March and the 10th April respectively. The 4th part also has the finishing instructions for piecing and adding the borders.
Once we have the next couple of parts available, I will show you some of the simple quilting designs I have used to finish the supper cloth. The quilting is also completely up to you and what suits the fabric you have chosen. Have fun stitching and fabric shopping, either in your stash or your local quilt shop.
