Quilt Complete – 2021 Monthly Color Challenge

I had a lot of fun sharing with you my blocks each month for the 2021 Monthly Color Challenge.

Fabric

The theme was Fruits and Veggies and I used scraps from my scrap bucket mostly with only a couple of times I needed to cut into meterage from the shop.

The background is a solid fabric in a charcoal grey and this creates a sense on uniformity across the quilt. With each block being a different colour this can be helpful with a sampler style quilt.

making the quilt

As I was sharing about the blocks each month on the blog, I was given access to the instructions early and managed to make the blocks ahead of time. I then put them safely away for a while until I was free to construct the quilt top and quilt it.

Well then there was a mad search for the special place I had put the blocks! My hint to you, label the container or bag you place a project into. Much time loss and stress will be avoided.

Often making and quilting my own quilts need to wait until client quilting is completed and so I managed this at the end of the year.

Quilting

The quilting has been done with a pantograph called Apple Meander and I used a thread called Christmas from the Rainbows range from Superior Threads. It is a 40wt thread. A you can see it is not overly bold from a distance but you can see the red and green of the thread when up close. With the number of colours in this quilt matching the thread is not always the most important decision.

The thread colour I used on the back is bright red and I love the effect on the green backing fabric.
