Revisit some Quilts with me

Some quilts I have not seen for a while

On a recent trip to my parents place, Mum and I looked through some quilts she has that were not quite finished. There were some that I had quilted a number of years ago. Some just needed the binding finished, it was already sewn on, and some needed the binding completed. It was lovely to see the quilts and the dates on the signature blocks, some from 1998 and 1999. Mind you the blocks were swapped in that year but the quilt may not have been put together until a few years later and then my first longarm was bought in 2009.

Binding Spree

I had a binding sewing spree and now these quilts are ready to be used and no longer in the to be finished pile! Mum had plans to finish the binding by hand but time got away and there are so many projects to work on that we agreed that machine was going to be faster. Done is better than perfect, right?!

What is your preferred way to complete binding – hand stitching, or machine sewn? Let me know in the comments.

It was fun to see some quilts I have quilted again. Would I choose the same pattern and thread colour again now? Yes for the most part I would make the same choices.

I used one of the completed quilts as an extra layer on our bed, it was a tad chilly overnight.

Quilts mostly made by my mum

I did not make the majority of these quilts, but I did contribute with a block or 2 in a few of the signature square quilts, and some quilting. Most of the quilts have been created by my Mum and she was the one who taught me to sew. A skill I am thankful to have.

My Kinship quilt from 2018 is also in this selection, a quilt I made for my Dad. I used some strategically placed red pieces to form a heart in the quilt. You can find the Kinship pattern here.

Quilt Inspo

There are some great ideas in these quilts to use up smaller pieces of fabric and scraps from other projects. Most of these quilts are easy and have effective arrangements of blocks that show off a feature fabric. They are easily achieved by all skill levels.

I hope you are be inspired to make another quilt, or to complete some that you have almost done.

Happy Quilting
