Fabric/Quilt Shop Visit
During the first week of January I was in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney and had a bit of free time. Our days were busy in the mornings and evenings but we had afternoons free and could explore a little.
As my boys were growing, I did not often get to visit quilt shops as we were travelling, the interest to young lads is minimal. As it was just hubby and I, he went to look at a music shop and I found Minerva’s Bower.

The day was hot and the air felt like it was straight from an oven. Opening the sliding door the coolness that greeted me was such a relief. I could see Clare the owner sorting some items and she welcomed me in from the heat.
The fabrics I could see were appealing, a great variety of linens and delicate cottons. If I had need for a new garment project I would have been hard pressed to choose which fabric. I knew I needed some zips in a variety of colours, so after being teased by the linens, I went to see what notions were available.
Drawers of buttons, such a fun way to display, ribbons in so many colours, some upholstery weight fabric, and then the notions.

I found some longer zips and chose a good selection of colours. They just needed to be longer than the 6inch zips I have in the studio.
Clare was happy to chat with me and hubby arrived in time to take a pic of us. It was a wonderful way to connect and I will be back next visit to Katoomba.

From Minerva’s Bower website
Located in the heart of the Blue Mountains World Heritage area Minerva’s Bower was started by Kylie and Clare in 2018 to give home sewists and makers physical access to quality fabrics and haberdashery. Minerva’s Bower places a heavy emphasis on stocking beautiful natural fibres, and sustainably and ethically manufactured fabrics. We also specialise in fabrics which match our colder mountain weather.
Our wonderfully creative community inspires us constantly, and we are always happy to expand our range of fabrics, patterns, leather and haberdashery.
