Description

Harlequin Heart is the result of a design that changed part way through. The goal was to use fabric I had on hand and I am pleased that this was achieved.

Why fabric on hand? Because its April 2020 and essential outings only are advised. Yep, we’re deep into the COVID19 pandemic and we are advised to only go out for essentials. You may argue that fabric is essential, and I would agree, usually.

So, raid your stash and scrap bin and make your own version of Harlequin Heart.

This pattern is a quick and easy make using simple blocks and some fusible adhesive. If you don’t have that on hand, then grab your pin cushion (with pins) and pin away.

The alternate version in the gallery is made with 6 inch blocks and is therefore a bit larger. Once you have had a go, you can make this pattern in pretty much any size.  Ours was made to use the scraps I had of these colourful solids.

If you have more fabric scraps, make it bigger, add more rows to the top, bottom and sides.  I wanted to centre the heart on this one but I can see more in my future.  This makes a quick and easy sew for a gift for a new baby, or larger for a older person.

You could easily quilt this in diagonal lines from corner to corner to accent the design and easily complete the quilting yourself. I used a heart pantograph design because, well I have the machine to do that.

I’d love to see your version so tag me @sunflowerquilting on Instagram and/or use the #ssqharlequinheart
