Remember Them.

We are pleased to bring you this quilt pattern to share our connection to the Australian Defence Force.  Our families have many generations involved in the defence of our nation.  With this quilt we honour their contribution.

20% of each sale of this pattern will be donated to Soldier On an organisation that supports our defence personnel impacted by their service. By purchasing this pattern you contribute to their programs around Australia.

The quilt uses a layer cake and some plain fabric.  The applique pieces are large and the result is a striking picture of poppy blooms on a background designed to frame them.

We have included pages with the letter for LEST WE FORGET 1914 – 1918 as a separate file should you wish to quilt this in the background as I have.

Our pictures are from the beautiful poppy installation at the Australian War Memorial in 2018, commemorating 100 years since the end of WW1. You can find more information about the 62,000 poppies displayed here.

“In Flanders Fields” by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
