Monthly Colour Challenge 2021 – July

What is this year long plan?

The 2021 Monthly Color Challenge is in it’s fourth year, and I am excited to join in. This year we’re getting our inspiration from Fruits and Veggies.

Each month there is a change in colour and a new block. You can see all the colours to come this year at this post on Jen’s blog. Jen also shares all the info on what you need and you can choose to sign up to receive the block sent straight to your inbox.

My block for July

Here’s my block for July, the colour for this month is Green for Lime. I have been using a menu planner (made by someone else) recently and this has seen me use more fresh limes and such that I have ever done before.

I have planned a consistent background of the dark charcoal grey and will be adding the feature colour color. There are a plethora of scraps in my studio so I have vowed to sew from them if I possibly can. This gorgeous lime was leftover from a recent quilt project.

I have been trying to add in the fruit or veg in the pics with the blocks and happened to have a bunch of fresh limes in the kitchen, perfect.

So, if you are keen to sew along with us this year, there’s a layout design for you at the end of the year, head over to Jen’s blog and join in. The blocks are free for the release month, and you can have them sent to your inbox.

Oh and each block comes with a How To video right in the instructions. That’s pretty handy.

My Tip to you.

Don’t like wasting those corners? Sew a half inch from your sewing line and cut between them to makes use of those cut off corners. You do need to collect quilts few of these to make another project but if you hate wastage then you’ll probably already do this!

Recipe fun…

I have a plan for some lime essence. i have made some lemon essence and want to do the same with limes.

What do you need for lime essence? Lime rind, no pith, cut into fine strips and vodka. That’s it. About 4-5 limes and 250ml vodka. Put it in a glass jar and in a dark place. Shake daily for the first week or so, then leave it for another 5-6 weeks.

This is a basic recipe and it’s going to be a bit of an experiment, so I’ll let you know how it goes.

Here’s a basic process for lemon extract, I’m just going to use limes instead.
