#100days100blocks

#100Days100Blocks - Sew a block a day for one hundred days using Tula Pink's City Sampler as your guide.

For 100 days starting on 17 August myself, Lisa (of Sweet Little Pretties) and Angie (of Gnomeangel) will be sewing one quilt block a day from Tula Pink’s City Sampler and we’re asking you to join us in sewing #100days100blocks.  The blocks in this book will be a great way to work on your sewing skills and the sew along will mean you have a finished set of blocks at the end. We’re going to have some fun and get to know others who are joining in this virtual stitching party over the next 3 months!

We know that not everyone is going to be as motivated as us to stitch a block a day so we’ve asked some of our great friends to help come up with ways to encourage you to make all 100 blocks. In what I’m pretty sure is a first for this kind of sew-along Spotlight Australia have kindly donated a Brother SL500 sewing machine valued at $549 (AU) to be given away to one lucky Australian participant. How amazing is that? You could literally win a new sewing machine just for sewing all 100 blocks! (Don’t despair if you don’t live in Australia – we haven’t forgotten about you, keep reading!)

But wait there’s more, we’ve got more great Sponsors on board to supply prizes to help keep you focused on the finish line. We have over $1,500(AU) in prizes to give away internationally. That’s amazing! You’ll find out all the details about our amazing sponsors and on how you can win detailed below.

Here are the important details.

When is it?

Starts: Block 1 will be posted on Wednesday 17 August 2016 Australian Eastern Standard Time (Sydney’s timezone).

Ends: Block 100 will be posted on Thursday 24 November 2016 (Thanksgiving Day) Australian Eastern Standard Time (Sydney’s timezone).

Blocks can be posted at any time on the correct day.

A Note About Time Zones

All dates, as written in this blog post and for the purpose of our organizing, will be in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). This is the timezone for Sydney, Australia. The beauty of doing this via Instagram is that it will date stamp your block with the day and time you post it. To be eligible for prizes you need to have posted the correct block for the correct date in your timezone. It’s simple and means you don’t have to worry about doing any time conversions, etc. Just post your block on the date we’ve advised and you’ll be good to go.

Where can I get the book?

There’s a number of places you can get the book.

You can buy the book via these links:

Amazon (see link on sidebar)| Fons & Porter (click here) | Keepsake Quilting (click here) | Interweave Store (click here) and if you do so a small commission is made on the sale which will go towards helping run this amazing event. (Thank you so much!)

Alternatively, you can purchase the book via one of our sponsors websites found below and help them to keep providing you with amazing products at fabulous prices.

Where’s it all happening?

Instagram is the social media of choice for this event. It will only be run on Instagram. There are no tutorials and there are no blog hops. It’s all about sharing your blocks on Instagram. You will need an Instagram account to be able to participate. Instagram is free to join and you can find it in your app store on your phone.

What’s the block order?

We will be sewing the blocks in numerical order. So block 1 on day 1, etc. etc. until we get to block 100 on day 100. Nice and easy!

How will I remember the block order?

Every 10 days Lisa, Angie and I will post a reminder to Instagram advising of what blocks are up next, which Sponsor has sponsored those 10 blocks and what prize could be on offer for those ten blocks. If you get lost you can just refer back to our accounts to see where we’re up to.

Alternatively Angie has made up a document that you can print out and use to keep track of where you’re at. Click here to download Block Calendar and Tracker.

Once we’ve confirmed all the prize entry requirements the tracker will be updated to include these details (like hashtags and accounts to follow) as well so you can keep everything handy!

How You Can Win!

I’m going to be honest, winning a prize is not going to be a pushover, there will be some work involved. The number of people eligible for the majority of the prizes might actually be smaller than you think… are you taking that as a silent challenge?!?      For a majority of the prizes you’re going to have to make the 100 blocks and post them on the correct 100 days. All 100 days.

However, because we’re not completely crazy there will be a few prizes along the way that we’ll put up for grabs for those that sew and post on the correct days a certain group of 10 blocks.

Minimum eligibility requirements:

To be eligible for any prize you must post a photo of the block on the day that the block is due (in your timezone) and hashtag it with #100days100blocks. You must also be following @gnomeangel, @sweetlittlepretties and @sunflowerquilting on Instagram.

Each prize will also come with it’s own requirements so be sure to pay attention to the details that are provided throughout the event.

If you’re following our Instagram accounts you’ll get all the information you need to keep up-to-date with the giveaways. You won’t need to go anywhere else for the information, it’ll all be on Instagram. But, because we know that people like to have a point of reference you’ll be able to come back here at any time and read up on what’s happening. All the information can be found under #100Days100Blocks in the menu at the top of this page.

Alternatively, just check out this all-in-one handy page that contains all the sponsor, prize and how to win information – click here.

Previously Made or Made Ahead of Time Blocks

Started already? or stalled in the making? We know there are a lot of you that have started sewing blocks previously and want to use this event to help you finish this project. We’re also aware that life happens and you might not get to sew a block a day for 100 days.  Don’t worry, you can still use these blocks, you just need to post a photo of the block on the correct day with the correct entry requirements to be eligible for inclusion in the prize pool.

You cannot add the hashtag to a block you’ve previously shared on Instagram. It needs to be a new photo date stamped with the correct date. This rule is only applicable to those of you wanting to be included in the prize pool. So even if you made the block ages ago, just take a new picture and post with the appropriate hashtags.

You cannot use a photo of a block that is in a finished quilt or quilt top. Sorry, this is all about sewing along and while we’re open to helping people who’ve started or people who’ve had an unavoidable interruption, we’re not awarding prizes for quilts that are already finished. This is all about making the quilt blocks.

Ultimately we’re not the Quilt Police, if you want to sew all your blocks in one weekend – that’s totally up to you. This is all about sewing the blocks, having fun with fabric and getting more involved with the online quilting community. In a nutshell, we’re just here to have fun and encourage you to spend more time being creative!
