What is this year long plan?
The 2021 Monthly Color Challenge is in it’s fourth year, and I am excited to be making these blocks. This year we’re getting our inspiration from Fruits and Veggies.
Each month there is a change in colour and a new block. You can see all the colours to come this year at this post on Jen’s blog. Jen also shares all the info on what you need and you can choose to sign up to receive the block sent straight to your inbox.
My block for August
Here’s my block for August, the colour for this month is Tan for Mushrooms.
I have planned a consistent background of the dark charcoal grey and will be adding the feature
colour color. There are a plethora of scraps in my studio so I have vowed to sew from them if I possibly can. This gorgeous lime was leftover from a recent quilt project.
I have been trying to add in the fruit or veg in the pics with the blocks and we usually have mushrooms in the fridge.
So, if you are keen to sew along with us this year, there’s a layout design for you at the end of the year, head over to Jen’s blog and join in. The blocks are free for the release month, and you can have them sent to your inbox.
Oh and each block comes with a How To video right in the instructions. That’s pretty handy.
My Tip to you.
Take your time with sewing and pressing your flying geese blocks, your points will be much neater. Also use a leader and ender to help you with starting the sewing in the corners, the seam will be more consistent.
Mushrooms, they really don’t need much more than some butter and a frypan. I have a lad who will appear beside me in the kitchen if I am frying mushrooms for dinner. He is making sure there is enough for him to enjoy as well.
So basically, melt the butter in the frypan, while it’s melting slice your mushrooms and then add to the pan, toss them through the butter (hint – don’t skimp on the butter). Then fry until you are happy with the result, we like them quite well cooked, starting to brown.
Enjoy these mushrooms with toast, on top of potatos, with bacon… everything is improved with bacon.
Want to join in? It’s not too late.
