2023 monthly color challenge – the finished quilt

The 2023 Monthly Color Challenge is now complete. This event was hosted by Patterns by Jen. Look for the 2024 Monthly Color Challenge starting this month.

the challenge

The 2023 Monthly Color Challenge was the 6th year. The inspiration was Classic Cars.

Each month a block was released and we made the block using the colour for that month.

The quilt

My scrap stash was full and so I used the ones I had enough of for each month. I decided to alternate the backgrounds for each month. The sashings were also alternated to play across the quilt and use up some of the strips I had cut for the quilt.

When it came to the border I used many of the fabrics that had enough left to cut squares from, I did hope that I had enough without needing more fabric. The remaining lengths were then used in the binding after quilting. I now have only 3 of these fabrics with a useable rectangle left over, which is so good to have them used and used well.

The binding is scrappy with lengths of some of the blocks fabrics, and some of the leftover strips from cutting the borders of the pale grey and charcoal. I quite like the effect of pops of colour along the outer edge of the quilt.
