Designing Women – Quilters edition

Hello everybody it’s Raylee here from Sunflower Quilting. Welcome to a new initiative
by a fabulous group of ladies that you can see on screen, we are Designing Women.

So I’m going to hand over to Laura who’s going to tell us a little bit more about what Designing Women is, all yours Laura.

Laura – Orange Blossom Quilt Design Studio

Thanks Raylee. Hi everybody I’m Laura Strickland and I own Orange Blossom quilt Design Studio. That’s a mouthful, most of my quilting has a pop culture reference and
1970s 80s touchstones that would resonate with people in that age group and so there was a fabulous TV show out in the 80s called Designing Women that featured a cast of four ladies that owned a design business in Atlanta Georgia and it was called Designing Women so when we talked about getting together, the six of us getting together and doing this show I’m like that’s the perfect title. We are all quilt designers or pattern designers or fabric designers within the quilt industry, so we are Designing Women Quilters Edition.

We have a little logo that you can look for when you’re looking for the videos they’ll be on all of our different streams and you’re welcome to go and check out our website subscribe to our newsletters. I’m really decited for us to get rolling with this when you hear from me you’re going to hear from me about Retreats and in-person teaching. I’m really excited for us to get started and I can’t wait to see you guys.

Jen – Faith and Fabric

Awesome Laura thank you I’m Jen Frost with Faith and Fabric I focus for those of you guys who I’ve met before welcome I’m so excited to see you here um I focus on Christian quilt patterns and fabrics and designs and so I love celebrating our faith I love celebrating the liturgical year and so you’re going to see that theme carry through a lot of my patterns and a lot of my Fabrics as Laura mentioned down in the comments below you’ll be able to
find links to all of our channels and all of our you know different newsletters so you guys can stay current and keep joining us for all of our Designing Women series.

Anne – Said With Love

Thanks Jen so I’m Anne from Said With Love and I’m based in Australia. I am a quilt pattern designer, I’m also an online fabric store owner which brings up many many joys I’m also hosting in-person Retreats and virtual sew alongs and that’s what our first topic’s going to be about, hosting a successful online sew along, and we’ll be talking about that in early to mid August. The dates that we’ll be having this Designing Women’s conversation will be in the caption below as well and we look forward to having lots of behind the scenes chats with you all.

Terry – Lizard Creek Quilting

Hello all, I’m Terry from Lizard Creek quilting. I live on a farm in the northwest corner of Iowa and when I’m not being a farm wife, which yeah that varies on the day or the time of year, I help my husband out in the in the barns, and I don’t drive tractor but I do know how to stop a hog so that’s a good deal.

When I’m not doing that I love to design fabrics. I do some long arm quilting, I design patterns and just anything quilt related. If it’s colors or quilts that’s where I’m at. And sometime down the road I’ll be talking about how to maybe if you think you have a good idea what would be a way to pitch to a magazine or you know what are some ways to get your name out there a little bit so that’s where I’m where I just got cut off there we go um that would live yeah that would be me so what’s up with you Raylee.

Raylee – Sunflower Stitcheries and Quilting

Excellent thank you Terry thank you everybody. My name is Raylee from Sunflower Stitcheries and Quilting. I am a longarm quilter, a sometime pattern designer and I’m
getting back into hosting Retreats as well. We have our second one coming up in October. As you can probably hear I’m also based in Australia, normally in Canberra but right now I am traveling, but through the joy of internet I can join everybody and
host.

Charisma – Charisma Horton Quilts, Charisma’s Corner

I was just going to say we need to let them know there’s a sixth member of our our unit.
Oh yes yes yes we are missing someone today. Charisma is a fabric designer, pattern designer, and also a longarm quarter so I don’t think she sleeps. She will be joining us as well but she is currently teaching at a show, at an event in America so she will be with us hopefully next time.
