#100Days100Blocks2017
We’re sewing again! Are you going to join us this year for the #100Days100Blocks2017 where we use Tula Pink’s City Sampler book and sew all 100 blocks and share them on Instagram each day for 100 days.
Your hosts are the same and we’re starting soon on a special day to both Lisa and Angie – their birthday. We had a lot of fun last year and we hope you’ll join us this year, either for the first time or for a second time. You can find us on Instagram as @gnomeangel, @sweetlittlepretties and @sunflowerquilting.
The info you need…
What’s it all about?
We’re sewing 100 blocks from Tula Pink’s City Sampler Book in 100 days. All on Instagram, no tutorials, no blog hops, no blog posts, just sewing and posting a block a day for 100 days.
Instagram is a free download and pretty easy to manage. Your account needs to be public so we can see your blocks. If you have a private account then you can create a second account just for this event. It’s pretty easy to then flip between accounts and post your pictures so we can all admire them.
We’ll be sewing from block 1 to block 100 in order, Day 1 block 1, etc.
When do we start?
Start day is Sunday 7th May 2017 AEST.
Finish day is 100 days later on Tuesday 15th August 2017 AEST
Blocks can be posted at any time during the day, they just have to be posted on the correct day in your timezone.
A bit about Time Zones
All dates and times written here and for organizational purposes will be in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST). This is the timezone for Sydney, Australia. Doing this sew along via Instagram will date stamp your block with the day and time you post it. To be eligible for prizes you need to have posted the correct block for the correct date in your timezone. This means you don’t have to worry about doing any timezone conversions. Just post your block on the correct date and all will be well.
Who can participate?
Anyone who wants to make this gorgeous quilt, no matter if you have been sewing for years or are just starting, actually if you are just starting this is a great quilt for learning skills.
I need the Tula Pink City Sampler Book…
No problem, you can find the book in many quilt shops or online. Check out these places | Fons & Porter (click here) | Keepsake Quilting (click here) | Interweave Store (click here) and if you do a small commission is made on the sale which will go towards helping run this amazing event.
Started sewing already?
We know there’s a lot of you that have started sewing blocks previously and want to use this event to help you get them all done. We’re also aware that you, like us, will have life events crop up during the 100 days which will mean you are not able to sew a block on it’s set day. Don’t worry, it will all work out!
You can still use these blocks, you just need to post a photo of the block on the correct day with the correct entry requirements to be eligible for inclusion in the prize pool. Planning ahead anyone?!
You cannot add the hashtag to a block you’ve previously shared on Instagram. You can use the same block but it needs to be a new photo date stamped with the correct date. This rule is only applicable to those of you wanting to be included in the prize pool.
You cannot use a photo of a block that is in a finished quilt or quilt top. Sorry, this is all about sewing along and while we’re open to helping people who’ve started or people who’ve got an unavoidable interruption that they can plan around, we’re not awarding prizes for quilts that are already finished. This sew along is all about making the quilt blocks. Thanks for your understanding!
Quilt Police do not exist, if you want to sew all your blocks in one weekend – that’s totally up to you, and I’ll be a tad jealous. This is all about sewing the blocks, having fun with fabric and being part of the amazing online quilting community. Just quietly, we’re just here to have fun!
Making your blocks
You do need to make them all and you do need to make them as per the book. Yes there are a couple of blocks that have a slight variation between the picture and the block diagram, pick one and go with it.
You don’t need to use any particular fabric. Yes the book is by Tula Pink but you can use whatever fabric you like. Have a blast choosing your favourites!
Miss a day? We are aware that a 100 day commitment is a big ask but the prizes from our sponsors are not insignificant so we feel this is reasonable to ask. If you want to be eligible for the big prizes, then you can’t miss a day. The smaller prizes are based around groups of 10 blocks.
