Block #64 Monette – FW 1930’s Sampler.
Continuing with the blocks from the Farmer’s Wife 1930’s Sampler Sew Along, here’s #64 Monette.
The fabric I have used is ‘Blessings’ by Moda, my thread for piecing is Rasant 50wt in a sandy beige colour. I am piecing on my older Janome 6129 Quilters Edition using a quarter-inch foot.
I printed the pattern on normal paper and I make sure to remove the paper pieces carefully after trimming the section to the dotted line. The patterns are all available on the CD-ROM that comes with the book, you’ll need a copy of the book to be able to make the block, no measurements are given in this tutorial.

This time I have only made Monette by using the templates available from Marti Michell. I am enjoying using them and know they are worth the money to buy. There are rotary cutting direction available as well. The Conversion Chart is found here.
None of my fabric choices have directional prints that will affect whether I choose to place my blocks on point or straight. This is a consideration for when you cut your pieces of fabric. (a friendly reminder)
Making Block #64 Monette
Make sure all your pieces are cut out.
I chain stitched the many small squares before joining to the top and sides of the medium squares.
Make each of the four pieced units for each corner before assembling the block like a 9 patch, 3 rows of 3.
Press firmly between each step to help with seam placement and the neatness of your finished block. Press well when finished to help the bulk of seams in the corner sections stay flat.
